AV Installation Superintendent

About the role

As an Installation Superintendent at Diversified, you will perform a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients. This key field position directs on-site work and coordinates closely with project management, building contractors, and others to manage all on-site installation activity. While this role does not directly manage personnel, it oversees installation projects to ensure timely, uninterrupted completion and the highest quality of work. You will resolve roadblocks, delegate tasks, and maintain quality control on job sites.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all on-site activity on active projects, addressing issues to meet quality and timeline standards.
• Lead and delegate tasks to multiple install crews, subcontractors, and union trades, often managing large teams.
• Supervise the physical installation of a wide variety of technology in diverse locations.
• Maintain quality control on job sites, checking work from employees, subcontractors, and union trades.
• Read and understand functional design drawings and cable riser diagrams.
• Provide consistent technical performance and flexibility in work schedule, including periodic overtime, weekends, and extended overtime to meet deadlines.
• Complete assignments in accordance with or better than established task durations and estimate task durations to meet deadlines.
• Provide daily feedback to the Project Manager.
• Build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.
• Handle, install, terminate, and test advanced fiber optic cables.
• Train and assist on-site install techs.
• Track and maintain toolkits, job material boxes, company vehicles, and materials inventories with clean, orderly, and well-documented records.
• Maintain personal licenses, certifications, and qualifications (some states have specific requirements).
• Maintain daily records of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry and an activity log for skills reporting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• AVIXA CTS Certification (required).
• AVIXA CTS-I Certification (highly encouraged).
• Valid driver’s license and adherence to insurance requirements.
• OSHA 30 Certificate (required); NYC OSHA 30 (preferred).
• Five or more years as an installation technician or related industry experience.
• Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video, and networking equipment.
• Knowledge of low voltage electrical concepts and advanced AV installation skills.
• Good verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.

Skills

• Diplomacy in working with clients and key stakeholders on job sites.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting design drawings and cable riser diagrams.
• Advanced fiber optic cable handling, installation, termination, and testing.
• Experience building and wiring custom panels from engineering drawings.

Physical Demands

• Exposure to construction site conditions on a regular basis, with compliance to all safety regulations and use of PPE.
• Spend at least 60% of time on feet and mobile around construction sites.
• Ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift/move materials up to 40 pounds.
• Regular use of keyboards, test equipment, and controls for installation projects.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• When not on construction sites, normal office conditions apply with use of office equipment.

Travel

• Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips required; must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 70-90% local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way).
• Up to 30% remote travel, with 10% required on a regular basis.
• Occasional travel by airplane for out-of-town projects.
• Mileage reimbursement at the current corporate rate for use of personal vehicle.

• Maintain and wear appropriate PPE as required by job tasks.
• Ensure hazards are addressed and rectified in a timely manner.
