Auxiliary Operator 2

About the role

The Auxiliary Operator is responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operation of the Power Plant, and the supporting equipment and systems. This position reports to the Operations Manager. The Auxiliary Operator carries out all routine water/gas chemistry analysis, inspects and monitors operating components, and reports Plant status. The Auxiliary Operator will also support the maintenance of the facility.

Physical requirements

• Standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing
• Routinely lifting to fifty (50) pounds
• Wearing protective equipment as required (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment, etc.)
• Extended working hours and varied shifts, with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions
• "On-call" status periodically be required

Qualifications and Skills

• Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment, as would be acquired in four (4) years of high school
• Associate degree, in a technical field, desirable
• Experience in a Power Plant environment desired, preferably as a Power Plant Technician, or equivalent position
• Experience working with high-pressure turbines, combustion turbines, and familiarity with associated equipment
• Experience in water chemistry control, condition analysis, water treatment facility operations, and chemical-handling requirements is desired
• Strong aptitude in math, and mechanical/electrical ability, desired
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion-turbine operations, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and inspection/recording of Plant parameters, is highly desirable
• Experience with piping and instrument schematics, and process controls, desirable
• Mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipment knowledge, is desired
