Autonomous Vehicle Technician - Level III
A Day in Life
The Autonomous Vehicle Technician – Level 3 (L3) performs routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Oro Mobility's autonomous vehicle fleet to ensure maximum uptime and trip readiness. This role conducts preventive maintenance, diagnoses mechanical and electrical issues, performs component replacements, and ensures vehicles meet Uber Fleet Operations Standards and OEM technical specifications. Reporting to the Service Supervisor, the L3 Technician works in a state-of-the-art depot facility using OEM provided tooling and diagnostic systems. This role offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge autonomous and electric vehicle technology in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Your work directly impacts fleet reliability, vehicle availability, and the success of autonomous mobility operations.
What You'll Do
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on autonomous vehicles according to OEM service schedules and Uber Fleet Operations Standards.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using diagnostic tools, scan tools, and technical documentation.
- Replace components including sensors, cameras, batteries, tires, brakes, fluids, and other vehicle systems as required.
- C Conduct post-repair inspections and quality checks to ensure work meets technical and safety standards.
- Document all work performed, parts used, and issues identified in maintenance management systems.
- Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with Service Supervisors and Materials Coordinators on parts needs, work priorities, and issue escalations.
- Escalate complex technical issues to Shop Foreman or OEM technical support teams.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to stay current on autonomous vehicle systems, EV technology, and OEM procedures.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience as an automotive technician, with experience in diagnostics and repair.
- ASE certifications preferred; experience with electric vehicles, ADAS, sensors, or advanced automotive systems a plus.
- Strong knowledge of automotive systems including electrical, mechanical, electronic, braking, suspension, HVAC, and powertrain components.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools, scan tools, multimeters, and maintenance management software.
- Strong attention to detail, quality focus, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical service manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and using hand/power tools for extended periods.
- Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as required for 24/7 operations.
- Valid California driver's license required.
What You'll Get
- The hourly rate for this role is $37.00.
- Overtime Pay: Eligible (The company pays overtime in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Per company policy, approval is required prior to the use of overtime).
- Holiday Pay: Eligible (1.5 x regular pay rate for hours worked on a designated holiday, in addition to receiving 8 hours of holiday pay).
- Sick Pay: Granted Up to 48 hours Paid Time Off / Vacation / Paid observed Holidays (Accruals start at .83 Days a Month, 4 Floating Holidays, 9 Paid Observed Holidays).
