About the Role

Western State Hospital is seeking a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Floater to provide cross-coverage across the facility while delivering psychiatric care as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for assigned units and providing Staff On-Duty and Psych Backup coverage for the hospital as scheduled.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct psychiatric care of patients on the assigned unit, including:
    • Psychiatric assessment
    • Patient and family interviews
    • Psychopharmacologic management
  • Planning and implementing psychiatric, medical, and behavioral rehabilitation treatment plans for patients
  • Liaising with community mental health center staff in preparing and implementing patient discharge plans
  • Supervising psychiatric nurse practitioner students
  • Reviewing case formulations, treatment plans, documentation, and other activities of nursing students on the service
  • Reviewing orders, emergency decisions, and treatment plans made by others (ODs) for patients on the service

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Licensed Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with Autonomous Practice and Prescriptive Authority in Virginia
  • Active DEA registration prior to the approval of clinical privilege(s)

Pay

Hiring range: $133,023 to $183,571.
