About the Role
Fresno City College seeks an equity-minded Automotive Technology Instructor to teach part-time courses and support a diverse student population. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, collaboration, and closing equity gaps in higher education.
Fresno City College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with a racially and socioeconomically diverse student body. For the 2021-2022 academic year, enrollment included 60% Latinx, 11% Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% Black/African American, 20% White, 1% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% multiracial students.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned Automotive Technology courses on a part-time schedule.
- Utilize diverse pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Employ effective teaching methods aligned with institutionally approved curriculum and course outlines.
- Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses.
- Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records per District Policy.
- Submit student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Teach in various instructional settings and times, including as needed.
- Fulfill all instructor duties as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, with a commitment to equity-minded practices.
- One of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of directly related professional experience;
- Associate degree and six years of directly related professional experience;
- A valid California Community College Credential;
- Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency petition).
Qualifications
- Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into instructional and professional responsibilities.
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students (e.g., African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American) and understanding historical exclusion patterns in higher education.
- Willingness to examine and improve instructional and relational practices to support racially minoritized students.
- Related work and professional experience in Automotive Technology.
- Experience working with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities and traditionally underrepresented populations.
- Ability to facilitate multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity.
- Experience supporting under-prepared and high-need community college students.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
- Proficiency with instructional technologies.
- Effective communication skills with students and staff.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
- Understanding of the community college mission and goals.
Pay
Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule. Salary classification is based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
