Automotive Technician I

Assigned to Fleet Maintenance - Central Garage. Heated shop floors, $1,000 yearly tool reimbursement allowance, and $225 yearly boot allowance.

About the role

As an Automotive Technician, you’ll diagnose, service, and repair a variety of City vehicles and equipment—from light- to medium-duty vehicles (police vehicles, half-ton trucks, sedans) to equipment such as mowers, tractors, and skid steers. The shop is well-equipped with heated floors for winter comfort. Technicians must provide their own tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment (oil changes, tire inspection, fluids, computerized diagnostics).
• Perform mechanical repairs and overhauls on light equipment (mowers, power tools) and light- to heavy-duty vehicles and trucks.
• Assist with heavy equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, graders, dump trucks, tractors, paving equipment, street sweepers, snow plows, and other municipal fleet.
• Basic fabrication and repairs on metal parts using welding equipment.
• Enter daily service notes on work orders, including parts and supplies used.
• Assist other mechanics as required.
• Respond to the public, citizens, employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
• Six months of experience performing automotive maintenance and repair work.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Wyoming driver’s license preferred.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements

• Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
• Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
• May be subject to moving mechanical parts, dusts, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, high vibration, extreme climate/weather conditions, and high noise levels.
