About the role

As a Sr. Reconditioning Associate II, you will play a vital role in ensuring every vehicle meets CarMax’s paint and cosmetic standards before reaching customers. This position involves performing advanced paint application, minor repairs, sanding, grinding, and paint preparation, and supporting related reconditioning duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete paint applications, including color matching and mixing for a quality finish.
• Execute minor repairs such as sanding and grinding to restore vehicle surfaces.
• Maintain paint preparation standards to ensure vehicles meet CarMax quality guidelines.
• Collaborate in problem‑solving and continuous improvement initiatives with your team.
• Follow standardized work processes and maintain compliance with CarMax Paint Standards.
• Keep all equipment and tools in optimal condition, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Follow CarMax Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Required qualifications

• Completion of CarMax New Associate Orientation Training – Operations.
• Ability to meet performance standards and workstation certifications for all related roles.
• Skilled in reading, interpreting, and recording data accurately and performing multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, high‑energy environment.
• Proficient in color discernment and paint application techniques.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
• Required to use CarMax‑provided respiratory protection; must be clean‑shaven to use half‑face respirator.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $28.35 – $35.09.

Benefits

Full‑time hourly or commission/incentive‑eligible associates receive:

• Up to 48 hours of paid sick time per year, accrued each pay period.
• Between 80 and 200 hours of paid vacation per year after a 90‑day waiting period, based on years of continuous service.
• Eight hours of pay for each of six scheduled holidays per year plus one floating holiday.
• Holiday Premium Pay if required to work on a scheduled holiday.
• Full‑time salaried associates receive paid time away with no specified limit for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc., subject to manager approval.
