Automotive Mechanic - Department of General Services
About the role
The Automotive Mechanic position within the City of Baltimore involves performing a wide range of diagnostic, installation, maintenance, and repair work on various types of automotive, heavy truck, heavy equipment, and other mechanical equipment. This role does not involve lead or supervisory duties and receives moderate supervision from a technical superior. Incumbents may work shift work including weekends and are subject to callback.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic, installation, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of automotive, heavy truck, heavy equipment, and other mechanical equipment.
- Repair, replace, and adjust electrical, fuel, drive, engine, brake, and related gasoline and diesel equipment.
- Read and understand service manuals, parts catalogs, schematics, and written work rules.
- Road test equipment.
- Prepare and maintain records.
Requirements
- Education: Graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED certificate.
- Experience: Four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and other mechanical equipment.
- License: Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of electrical, fuel, drive, engine, brake, and related gasoline and diesel equipment and the techniques of their repair.
- Knowledge of the tools and equipment used to repair a variety of automotive and other mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of the practices and methods of automotive equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of the tools and materials required in automotive equipment maintenance.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $50,567.00 - $82,418.00 annually, with starting pay at $50,567.00 - $65,979.00 annually.
Schedule
Employees in this class may work shift work including weekend hours.
