Automotive Lab Specialist

Dallas College is seeking a passionate and hands-on Automotive Lab Specialist to support our Automotive Technology programs and play a vital role in student success.
Responsibilities
- Support the daily operation of automotive laboratories, tool rooms, and specialized instructional spaces.
- Maintain, organize, and manage automotive tools, diagnostic equipment, training systems, materials, and supplies.
- Perform inventory tracking and maintain accurate records of equipment, tools, and consumables.
- Receive, store, distribute, and monitor the return of tools and equipment.
- Ensure lab equipment remains operational through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and coordination of repairs.
- Recommend replacement equipment and new equipment purchases to support instructional needs.
- Partner with faculty to prepare labs and instructional activities that enhance student learning.
- Train students on proper use of tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Serve as a technical resource for students, faculty, and staff within automotive programs.
- Champion a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with laboratory safety standards and automotive industry best practices.
- Train students on safe work practices and the proper handling of materials and equipment.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other required safety documentation.
- Monitor lab environments to ensure cleanliness, organization, and safe operations.
- Cover administrative and operational support:
- Coordinate with vendors to obtain quotes, process purchases, and support equipment acquisitions.
- Track purchase requests, maintenance schedules, and operational records.
- Maintain technical records, reports, and inventory databases using various software systems.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with automotive technologies and industry trends.
Requirements
- Associate degree plus one (1) year of related work experience and/or experience in a teaching environment.
- In lieu of associate degree, two (2) years of related work experience may be substituted.
- Knowledge about laboratory operations, laboratory information systems (software and hardware), and laboratory equipment in one or more discipline areas within the School.
- Advanced ability to use computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, detail-oriented approach to work, strong decision-making skills, good follow-up, ability to complete tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and constituents in the Dallas College community network.
- Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with individuals internal/external to Dallas College.
- Must be able to comply with district policies/procedures as well as applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Qualifications
