Automotive Instructor

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruct courses in automotive technology, including engine repair, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, heating/air conditioning, and diagnostics.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with industry standards (ASE/NATEF) and school objectives.
  • Incorporate both classroom instruction and hands-on lab/shop experiences.
  • Assess student progress through tests, projects, and practical demonstrations.
  • Provide individualized support and mentorship to students.
  • Promote safety, professionalism, and work ethics in the shop environment.
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., ASE).
  • Encourage career readiness skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Maintain and update training equipment, tools, and instructional materials.
  • Collaborate with local employers, advisory boards, and industry partners to align curriculum with workforce needs.
  • Stay current with automotive technology trends and integrate them into instruction.
  • Participate in recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Teaching certification/licensure as required by state regulations.
  • Experience: Minimum 3--5 years of professional automotive repair/service experience. Prior teaching or training experience preferred, but not required.
