AUTOMOTIVE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II

Salary range: $4,496.00 - $5,383.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

About the Role

The Department of State Hospitals - Napa has a permanent full-time vacancy for an Automotive Equipment Operator II. Under general direction, this role plans and coordinates operations of a fleet of at least 20 motor vehicles, makes work assignments for vehicles and operators, dispatches vehicles in response to orders, ensures vehicles are properly serviced, and prepares work orders for mechanical maintenance. Additional responsibilities include maintaining records, preparing reports, assisting with budget requests related to automotive equipment, and operating automotive vehicles when required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate operations of a fleet of at least 20 motor vehicles.
• Make work assignments for vehicles and operators.
• Dispatch vehicles in response to orders.
• Ensure vehicles are properly serviced and maintained.
• Prepare and initiate work orders for mechanical maintenance of vehicles.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Assist with preparation of budget requests related to automotive equipment.
• Operate automotive vehicles when required.

Requirements

• Possession of a driver license valid for operation of:
  • Any bus designed to carry more than 15 passengers,
  • Any single vehicle with three or more axles,
  • Any such vehicle towing another vehicle weighing less than 6,000 pounds gross.
• Three years of experience in the operation and care of automotive equipment, including light trucks.
• Include a copy of your driver license (front and back) with the Passenger endorsement with your application.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Operation and care of various kinds of automotive equipment.
• Organization and operation of a motor pool.
• Automotive service requirements of an institutional-type organization.
• Preventive maintenance procedures of automotive equipment.
• California Vehicle Code pertaining to the operation of vehicles on the highway.
• Principles of effective supervision.

Ability to:

• Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
• Direct the work of others.
• Keep simple records and make reports.
