Automation Technician III

Pay: $33–$38 per hour, based on experience.

About the role

The Automation Technician III safely installs and maintains company products at client sites with minimal supervision. This position serves as a Lead Technician or highest-level technician on service teams, ensuring all work meets manufacturers’ and clients’ specifications. The role requires adaptability to varied and extreme working environments, physical stamina, and the ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, install, and service company products, including equipment calibrations, troubleshooting, repairs, tank measurements, H₂O measurements, radio installations, antenna adjustments, and other communication tasks without supervision.
• Perform PLC/RTU troubleshooting using ABB Totalflow products.
• Assemble well head kits, battery kits, and DCP meters with little or no assistance.
• Wire well heads, tanks, batteries, and Totalflows with minimal supervision.
• Perform basic Totalflow and FreeWave programming and calibrations with little or no oversight.
• Serve as a Site or Service Lead for teams of 1–5 Technicians.
• Perform measurement duties at client sites.
• Comply with corporate policies and OSHA safety rules; maintain understanding of industry safety norms.
• Complete daily CSRs (Customer Service Reports) and maintain accurate records of hours, inventory, and services performed.
• Input inventory records into the computer system to maintain organized databases.
• Follow orders from Site Supervisor and Area Service Manager efficiently.
• Maintain professional behavior and communication with employees, customers, and vendors.
• Properly use, care for, and secure company tools, supplies, and vehicles.
• Demonstrate computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel.
• Manage time effectively, follow directions, and complete work within deadlines.
• Complete required training and maintain necessary safety certificates.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and hazard-free.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
• 3–5 years of experience with PLC/RTU instrumentation and controls.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
• Valid driver’s license with a good MVR (Motor Vehicle Record).
• Mechanical aptitude and experience working with tools.
• Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is a plus.
• Sound physical health to handle the rigors of the work, including lifting up to 60 pounds, standing for long periods, bending, kneeling, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
• Ability to work in extreme weather environments and remote areas independently.
• Quick learner who follows instructions and works well in a team.
• Fluent in speaking, writing, and reading English.
• Regular and on-time attendance; position requires 40+ hours per week and may include on-call rotations.
• Travel by company vehicle to work sites across a large geographic area; out-of-state travel may be required.
