Job Summary

The Automation Technician II – Nights – B Shift is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automated manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal production efficiency and product quality during the night shift. This role involves working independently and as part of a team to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on automated production machinery, including robotics, vision systems, conveyors, and PLCs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on automated equipment.
  • Execute repairs and replacements of faulty components, including sensors, motors, drives, and control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and PLC ladder logic to identify and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Aid in the installation, setup, and commissioning of new automated equipment.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and improvements accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and company policies at all times.
  • Provide technical support and training to production operators as needed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Operate and program robotic systems and other automated devices.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and production line stoppages promptly.

Education And Minimum Experience

  • Associate's degree in Automation Technology, Robotics, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in automation maintenance or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, motor controls, and sensors.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and programming PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI interfaces.
  • Experience with robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, Universal Robots) including programming and maintenance.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on a night shift schedule.
  • Proficient in using various hand and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with the role.
