AUTOMATION SPECIALIST

Job Summary

Automation Specialist at Applied Chemical Technology seeks candidates with a combination of education, experience, and skills in programming PLCs and understanding automated equipment functions. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of community or technical college, and two to three years of experience programming PLCs using Ladder Logic, Function Block, or Structured Text.

Responsibilities

• Report to the Automation Manager
• Respect and adhere to all active contracts and confidentiality agreements with Applied Chemical Technology and associated clients
• Respect and adhere to all safety rules procedures, and complete all necessary safety training
• Work with project managers to assess client needs related to automation
• Aid project managers in preparing project bids and cost estimation
• Provide engineering input to projects as required
• Design control panels/systems to meet project requirements
• Generate AutoCAD drawings/schematics for control system design
• Specify, purchase, and receive materials for control system fabrication
• Provide written and verbal direction to panel shop personnel to ensure efficient completion of projects
• Report project status to project managers as necessary
• Work with project managers and accounting personnel to accurately document project costs
• Perform other functions in the Automation Department as requested by the Automation Manager or higher management

Requirements

• Ability to program HMI graphic interfaces employing situational awareness philosophy
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment and ability to troubleshoot systems
• Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel
• Knowledge of and ability to use AutoCAD and other design software
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
• Ability to maintain a clean work environment
• Ability to maintain an effective, courteous, and tactful relationship with other employees and clients
• Willingness to be assumed other job duties as necessary to complete projects
• Able to travel when needed, including international travel

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two years of community or technical college
• Two to three years of experience programming PLCs using Ladder Logic, Function Block, or Structured Text

Skills

• Programming PLCs using Ladder Logic, Function Block, or Structured Text
• Familiarity with various PLC brands such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Productivity, etc.
• Understanding of automated equipment functions; chemical processes; and mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Ability to use Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel
• Ability to use AutoCAD and other design software
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions
• Ability to lift and handle boxes and sales equipment of up to 50 lbs
• Ability to coordinate the use of both hands to perform tasks
• Ability to reach overhead, stoop, kneel, walk, talk, hear, read, and see
