About the role

As Automation Expert at Portwise, you will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and optimisation of automated systems at our clients’ terminals. You will collaborate closely with client teams—including operations, engineering, and IT—to ensure seamless integration of automated systems. You will advise on required system and equipment functionalities, testing, and implementation methodologies to help clients meet their performance targets.

Our clients are implementing various types of automated equipment, such as automated guided vehicles, autonomous trucks, automated straddle carriers, and automated rubber-tired gantry cranes. You will work alongside Portwise’s team of technical professionals on major project milestones, driving success by enabling fully automated equipment operations.

Portwise distinguishes itself with deep automation and operational expertise in the global container terminal and logistics industry. Our clients include major container terminal operators worldwide as well as local port operators. The role has a strong international dimension, involving occasional travel and on-site work at client locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice to clients as a subject-matter specialist in automation.
  • Ensure automation solutions deliver the expected benefits.
  • Offer hands-on support to clients before, during, and after implementation of automation solutions.
  • Manage expectations of various stakeholders involved in implementing automation technologies.
  • Map existing operational processes against new automated processes for terminal operations.

Requirements

  • Academic degree in a relevant field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in implementation and/or optimisation of automation systems, preferably in a port or container terminal environment.
  • Strong knowledge of port logistics, IT/automation technologies, testing, and/or software implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate conceptual solutions into optimised automated processes.
  • Critical, assertive, and independent attitude.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Willingness to travel.
