About the Role
The Automation Engineer V – Senior Lead oversees the Automation, Instrumentation and Controls (AIC) discipline at a project level and manages the project discipline budget on simple to complex projects of all sizes. This role involves directing and managing workflows and execution of design and engineering support staff to meet client expectations and project goals, with a thorough understanding of document development and field implementation through all project phases.
Responsibilities
- Works with a Project Manager on proposal development, man-hour planning, and project scheduling for the discipline scope of work on large, advanced/complex projects.
- Identifies and resolves advanced non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.
- Develops construction drawing packages and writes construction specifications on advanced and complex projects without oversight.
- Provides lead and advanced support of construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and construction progress reports.
- Conducts technical and leadership interviews.
- Conducts quality checking of documents for advanced complex projects (e.g., technical verification of design calculations and documentation) and drives overall project quality.
- Provides mentorship to Discipline Engineer I, II, III, and IV and/or Designer I, II, and III.
- Leads advanced project system design programming and master planning with support from Senior Engineers.
- Leads a team of discipline staff in the execution of advanced projects' discipline design and engineering.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in discipline-specific field of study (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering).
- Minimum of 15 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer registration.
- ISA Certified Automation Professional.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency in discipline-specific software.
- Advanced knowledge of cGMPs and/or experience with advanced technology industry projects such as R&D labs, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, food and nutrition, and/or consumer products.
- Expert experience with performing engineering calculations and developing and implementing discipline systems designs.
- Expert experience with implementing fundamental design aspects of control system schematics, panel fabrication drawings, and field wiring plans design.
- Expert experience developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Expert experience with the electrical code.
- Advanced experience with other applicable industry standards.
- Advanced experience with applicable mechanical and building codes.
- Advanced experience and knowledge with designing Safety Instrumented Systems.
- Proficient with advanced internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination.
- Proficient with advanced coordination with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
- Proficient at advanced design calculations without supervision.
- Attend external seminars/conferences for professional development.
