About the Role
The Automation Engineer I supports the deployment, integration, optimization, and ongoing performance of manufacturing automation systems at the site level. This hands-on role focuses on assembly, test, and vision-based automation equipment, working closely with production, engineering, maintenance, and external suppliers. This is an execution and support role—not design engineering—centered on improving and sustaining supplier-provided automation systems.
Responsibilities
- Assist with implementation and industrialization of automation systems for assembly, testing, and vision inspection.
- Support manufacturability assessments, process readiness, and product integration into automation systems for New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Participate in validation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Support installation, integration, FAT/SAT, startup, and production ramp of new automation assets.
- Provide hands-on support for mechanical, electrical, PLC, robotic, and integrated systems.
- Rapidly resolve issues to minimize downtime and improve system reliability.
- Drive improvements in OEE, cycle time, scrap, and downtime.
- Support root cause analysis, PFMEA updates, and basic DOE activities.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, Maintenance, and external suppliers to optimize system performance.
- Help develop work instructions and troubleshooting guides.
- Train operators and technicians on equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of automation systems, mechatronics, PLCs, robotics, and vision systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in manufacturing environments; Lean knowledge preferred.
