Automation Engineer
About the role
Serval is an AI‑native automation platform transforming how enterprises operate. The company builds intelligent agents that understand real‑world workflows and execute them end‑to‑end, replacing manual processes and rigid legacy systems with adaptive, learning software. Founded in early 2024, Serval is trusted by companies such as Fox, Notion, Perplexity, Vercel, and Brex to automate high‑volume, high‑friction operational work across IT, HR, Finance, Security, Legal, and Engineering. Backed by investors including Sequoia Capital, Redpoint Ventures, Meritech, First Round, General Catalyst, and Elad Gil, Serval’s mission is to eliminate repetitive, manual work across the enterprise and create a universal AI operations layer.
The Automation Engineer role focuses on building Serval’s agents directly into customer instances, eliminating repetitive tickets (onboarding, access requests, approvals, etc.). The engineer will push Serval into new use cases, dog‑food unreleased features, feed field ideas back to the product team, and act as a practitioner evangelist for both Serval and Automation Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design and build automations and AI agents inside customers' Serval instances, covering onboarding, access requests, and other service‑desk workflows.
- Integrate Serval with customer systems (Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, ServiceNow, Workday) to enable end‑to‑end automation.
- Run working sessions with IT, HR, Finance, and Legal teams to extract real processes and turn them into buildable solutions the same day.
- Enable customer builders by turning implementations into reusable patterns and teaching customer teams to extend them.
- Partner with Deployment Strategists to meet customer milestones and surface risks early when use cases encounter issues.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
- 2+ years in a relevant role (IT or service operations, professional services, solutions engineering, business systems, technical support).
- Working knowledge of APIs and REST, JSON, and IAM concepts including SSO, SCIM, and provisioning.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to run working sessions, challenge requirements, and translate technical trade‑offs for non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar software quickly and work independently across several customer accounts.
Nice to Have
- Experience in an early‑stage startup environment.
- Hands‑on experience administering or migrating an ITSM platform (ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, Freshservice, Zendesk).
- Familiarity with IT, security, service management, or workflow automation.
Benefits
- Impact: Play a key role in shaping the success of Serval’s product and company.
- Growth: Build a fundamentally new AI product offering with support from an experienced team and investors.
- Culture: Join a culture that values innovation, ownership, accountability, and fun.
