Automation Engineer
About the role
We are seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer to join a high-performing Agile team focused on improving software quality, expanding automation coverage, and reducing testing bottlenecks within a fast-paced development environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks using TypeScript and Playwright.
- Create and execute automated UI, API, integration, and regression test suites.
- Review incoming code changes to identify quality risks, automation gaps, and potential impacts to existing functionality.
- Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and QA team members to ensure quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle.
- Analyze failing tests, investigate root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
- Expand automation coverage to address existing testing backlogs and improve release confidence.
- Evaluate test cases and determine which scenarios provide meaningful automation value versus manual validation.
- Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable automated validation during deployments.
- Perform database validation and backend testing as needed.
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and technical planning sessions.
- Mentor team members on automation best practices and quality engineering principles.
- Help establish testing standards, reporting, and quality metrics across development teams.
- Explore emerging automation technologies, including AI-assisted testing approaches and Model Context Protocol (MCP) related capabilities.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software quality engineering and test automation experience.
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with Playwright.
- Proven experience building and maintaining automation frameworks from the ground up.
- Experience testing both web applications and APIs.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Experience with SQL or other database technologies for data validation and testing.
- Experience performing code reviews and assessing software quality risks.
- Ability to independently solve problems and make informed technical decisions.
- Attention to detail and analytical thinking skills.
- Communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with JavaScript-based automation frameworks.
- Experience with backend API automation using Python or similar languages.
- Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket, Docker, Jenkins, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with Playwright database integrations and advanced test orchestration.
- Knowledge of React.js, Node.js, and modern web application architectures.
- Experience with security, performance, and load testing.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
- Experience working with AI-enabled testing tools and automation solutions.
- Knowledge of AWS, Terraform, and automated deployment pipelines.
- Experience testing third-party integrations and distributed systems.
