Automation Engineer
About The Job
The MA Bio-Campus is home to Sanofi’s digital facility which won ISPE’s Facility of the Future and Facility of the Year 2020. As such, the Manufacturing Systems & Automation group is responsible for executing Sanofi’s Digital Strategy to deliver innovative solutions. Focused on Digital 4.0, this group is involved in delivering digital solutions for large capital projects as well as continuous improvement and optimizing existing solutions. The group is responsible for design, implementation, support, and maintenance of digital systems aligned with site and company goals.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide automation expertise for small projects including continuous improvement and retrofit.
- Support delivery of future enhancements for automation related systems.
- Maintain and provide technical support for automation systems for multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Ensure timely issue escalation to senior management and cross-functional support teams.
- Partner with support teams like Manufacturing, Quality, etc. to ensure deliverables are completed to meet production schedules.
- Provide technical solutions to a wide range of process automation related design challenges.
- Manage small departmental projects and ensure appropriate controls, approvals, and validation requirements are implemented.
- Integrate systems and data from various skidded systems, analytical equipment, and process/building control systems.
- Develop robust solutions that minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.
- Contribute to the development of automation standards.
- Ensure compliance with Sanofi requirements for training, inspections readiness, investigations, deviations, and CAPA’s.
- Ensure automation documentation is compliant and inspection ready.
- Participate in inspections conducted by external regulators.
- Comply with Genzyme’s Safety Program including Health and Safety regulations and OSHA requirements.
- Work collaboratively with inter-department and cross-functional teams to contribute to necessary changes in a timely and productive manner.
- Partner with Manufacturing to troubleshoot and drive resolution of process issues and proactively drive projects to improve manufacturing processes.
- Partner with Operational Excellence to drive process improvements through Kaizens, Kanban, 5S, and VSM.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science or related technological field with at least 6 months hands-on experience in the process automation field, preferably in life sciences.
- Direct experience with regulated environments (i.e. cGMP, OSHA, EPA).
- Experience with DeltaV automation.
- Experience with multiple computerized systems (Ignition, Werum PAS-X, PI, etc.).
- Experience with SCADA/PLC systems such as Rockwell Factory Talk/RSLogix, Honeywell.
- Understanding of network infrastructure.
- Experience with systems/network/validation, preferable in the chemical, pharmaceutical, foods, or other process industries.
- Electrical Engineer or Chemical Engineer.
- Experienced in establishing safe practices in a cGMP environment.
- Understanding of virtual environments, VMWare, Hyper-V.
- Proficient working with computer programs/applications such as Windows, VBA, MS Word, Excel, Access, etc.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and be accountable.
- Prominent technical and analytical skills to quickly resolve automation system issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science or related technological field with at least 6 months hands-on experience in the process automation field, preferably in life sciences.
- Direct experience with regulated environments (i.e. cGMP, OSHA, EPA).
- Preferred qualifications include experience with DeltaV automation, multiple computerized systems, SCADA/PLC systems, network infrastructure, and systems/network/validation in the chemical, pharmaceutical, foods, or other process industries.
- Electrical Engineer or Chemical Engineer.
- Experienced in establishing safe practices in a cGMP environment.
- Understanding of virtual environments, VMWare, Hyper-V.
- Proficient working with computer programs/applications such as Windows, VBA, MS Word, Excel, Access, etc.
Special Working Conditions
- Required manufacturing operations support on a rotating “on call” 24/7 basis.
- Requires working in an industrial manufacturing environment including gowning.

The Salary Range For This Position Is $75.000,00 - $108.333,33 All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs, and additional benefits information can be found here.
