About the Role
The Automation Clerk performs administrative and clerical assignments that require subject-matter knowledge and judgment. Work typically involves numerous steps that vary in sequence and requires selecting from alternative methods. The Automation Clerk adapts or interprets guides, manuals, and procedures to complete tasks and refers problems that cannot be resolved using standard procedures to higher-level staff. The position supports administrative operations, maintains records, ensures accuracy of reports, and may guide lower-level clerical personnel.
Responsibilities
- Use subject-matter knowledge and judgment to complete multi-step administrative assignments.
- Select appropriate methods and procedures from alternatives to complete tasks effectively.
- Assist in a variety of administrative and clerical matters.
- Maintain a wide range of financial, statistical, or operational records.
- Verify statistical reports and administrative documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Handle, resolve, and adjust routine complaints related to administrative processes.
- Refer nonstandard or unresolved issues to higher-level staff when problems require more than adapting existing guides or procedures.
- May direct or provide guidance to lower-level clerks in completing routine administrative tasks.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Ability to interpret and adapt substantive guides, manuals, or procedures to complete assignments.
- Knowledge of office operations, administrative processes, and recordkeeping procedures.
- Ability to maintain diverse records accurately and verify statistical or operational reports.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, including ability to handle routine complaints.
- Ability to guide and direct lower-level clerical staff when needed.
- Judgment and capability to determine when issues must be elevated beyond standard procedural interpretation.
