About the role

The AutoCAD Electrical Designer owns the development and governance of electrical control system documentation, translating engineering designs into precise, production-ready schematics and drawing packages. This role serves as the technical authority for CAD standards, symbol library integrity, and BOM accuracy — ensuring seamless alignment between engineering intent, procurement data, and manufacturing execution.

Responsibilities

  • Own and govern the “smart symbol” library standard, making architectural decisions on logic, naming conventions, and scalability. Includes creation of new “smart symbols” as required by new designs.
  • Own and manage the Electrical design file storage and change management process within PDM.
  • Lead the migration strategy for legacy drawings into the AutoCAD Electrical environment, establishing the conversion methodology and quality standards.
  • Establish and enforce BOM integrity standards across engineering and procurement, serving as the cross-functional authority between design and Syspro ERP.
  • Perform gap analysis and make adjustments to ensure visibility and accuracy between engineering designs and procurement data.
  • Arcitect and maintain a structured file environment within Autodesk Vault to facilitate the relocation and secure storage of electrical schematic packages.
  • Produce drawing packages for special projects and new standard product lines, including full BOM setups in Syspro.
  • Manage and update “As Built” documentation and day-to-day edits to ensure production and manufacturing teams have the latest PDF documentation.
  • Improve enclosure manufacturing drawings by detailing gland hole locations, label placement, and ID label specifics.
  • Assist in updating standard product manuals and generating technical documentation for new releases.
  • Elevate the success of electrical operations by maintaining a high standard for drawing tasks, providing a foundation for future automation growth.
  • Assist the expanding software/automation team by understanding current structures and helping the lead developer implement team-based development procedures.

Requirements

  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work in fast-paced team environments.
  • Education: Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in electrical design and documentation, with demonstrated ownership of CAD standards or library development.

Competencies

  • Deep working knowledge of ERP systems (Syspro preferred), PDM software (Autodesk Vault), and AutoCAD Electrical for Design and Drafting.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical control panel design, enclosure layouts, and manufacturing documentation.

Benefits

  • Free HSA health plan or traditional PPO
  • 401(k) with generous company match (Safe Harbor)
  • Dental, vision, and optional coverage like accident & critical illness insurance
  • HSA and FSA accounts to save on healthcare costs
  • Company-paid Life, Long Term Disability, and AD&D insurance
  • Confidential support for mental health, family matters, legal concerns, and more through our Employee Assistance Program
