About the role

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded the Technical Support Services Contract 5 (T5) to Parsons in April 2023. Parsons is the prime contractor for this $1.8+ billion contract with a 4-year base period and two 3-year options. The work supports the FAA’s Capital Investment Plan (CIP), NextGen Program, national security programs, and aviation safety. Activities include site selection and engineering, construction, environmental and fire/life safety, equipment installation and testing, drafting, contract surveillance, and other technical services. Work is performed nationwide across the FAA’s nine regions, the Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and several U.S. territories. An average staff of 500 with a peak staff over 650 supports this contract, in addition to subcontractors who perform construction work.

This operator works closely with design originators, preparing drawings or computer models of complex or original designs that include multiple views and detail drawings. The role requires considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray designs. The operator works from sketches, computer models, and verbal information supplied by architects, engineers, or designers to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information. They select required information from computer programs, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides. A manager, lead, or design originator may suggest methods of approach or provide advice on unusually difficult problems. This worker may occasionally interpret general designs prepared by others to complete minor details, provide advice and guidance to lower-level drafters, or serve as coordinator and planner for large and complex drafting projects.

Responsibilities

• Understands reference/model file concept for preparation of facility construction drawing packages.
• Able to manipulate multiple reference/model files to prepare specific discipline plan drawings and section/details.
• Able to work independently with minimal or no supervision from the engineer.
• Able to interpret and incorporate client’s Computer Aided Engineering Graphics (CAEG) standards.
• Proficient with AutoCAD.
• Checks the validity of drawing contents prior to adding to the inventory.
• Ensures the proper filing of drawings.
• Provides copies of drawings upon request.
• Accepts incoming drawing packages from Drafting Manager or Lead Drafter.
• When no hardcopies are provided, creates PDF files from stored folders when directed the project is complete.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; college degree preferred.
• Must be computer savvy and a fast learner.
• 4+ years of Computer Aided Drafting experience, with knowledge of AutoCAD and drafting techniques.
• Good oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
• Must be able to meet customer security requirements; a background check by Federal Authorities will be performed.
