Auto Mechanic I
About the role
Located in the Department of Public Works and Transportation – White Plains: Under general supervision of higher level automotive maintenance personnel, an incumbent of this class is responsible for a wide variety of repair and maintenance work on all types of automotive equipment, and for assisting in carrying out a preventive maintenance program. Work assignments are initiated by oral instruction or written work orders, while the more complex jobs may require the diagnosis of mechanical difficulties.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for a wide variety of repair and maintenance work on all types of automotive equipment.
- Assist in carrying out a preventive maintenance program.
- Initiate work assignments by oral instruction or written work orders.
- Diagnose mechanical difficulties for more complex jobs.
- Work independently on more complex jobs.
- Provide guidance to lower-level maintenance staff as needed.
- Perform related work as required.
