About the role
Sorin Medical, the largest and fastest growing Cardiology practice in NYC, is seeking an Authorization Specialist to join our medical office staff in Galax, Virginia. In this role, you will complete authorizations and referrals for medical services, review patient medical history, verify insurance coverage, and ensure prior authorization for scheduled appointments or procedures.
Responsibilities
- Complete authorizations and referrals for services, including appointments and procedures
- Review patient’s medical history and insurance coverage for approval
- Contact referring physicians for additional information as needed
- Input new patient information and update information in our system
- Monitor schedule for potential issues or conflicts with add-on patients
- Complete billing documentation
- Assist with other clerical tasks as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Associate degree in medical coding or a related field (a plus)
- Experience in medical billing or insurance authorization (strongly preferred)
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Basic computer skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Ability to reliably commute or relocate to Galax, VA 24333 before starting work (Required)
Preferred experience: 1 year in insurance verification or medical billing.
