Overview
Authorization Specialist, Full-time
Location: On-Site Arlington Heights
Days/Hours: Monday- Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Responsibilities
- Contact referring provider's office to request clinical notes and follow-up, track progress
- Absorb and assist with the rescheduling list, reschedule appointments as needed
- Keep track of any incoming faxes in Updox
- Absorb and assist with Auth Help Chats, Klara, and emails
- Work alongside the authorization department team and assist in other areas as needed
- Review chart documentation to ensure the patient meets medical policy guidelines
- Prioritize incoming authorization requests according to the urgency, tracking process and status
- Maintain individual payer files to include up-to-date requirements needed to successfully obtain authorizations
- Confirm accuracy of CPT and ICD-10 diagnoses on the procedure order
- Review accounts with HMO plans and ensure that all required referrals are obtained from the referring provider prior to the appointment date
- Contact patients to discuss authorization status
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Knowledge of authorization procedure and its direct impact on the practice’s revenue cycle
- Understanding of payer medical policy guidelines while utilizing these guidelines to manage authorizations effectively
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, specifically musculoskeletal
- Proficient use of CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Plans and prioritizes to meet deadlines
- Excellent customer service skills; communicates clearly and effectively
- Ability to multitask and remain focused while managing a high-volume, time-sensitive workload
- Solid, concise verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Solid focus on detail, exceptional organizational and follow-through abilities
- Flexibility to adapt quickly to any disruptions or changes in the day
- Possess information research skills and accurate data entry skills
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years of medical prior authorization experience preferred
- 2 years experience in a medical-related field required
