Authorization Specialist

The Authorization Specialist plays a critical role in supporting workers' compensation claims, referrals, and authorization processes to ensure timely patient care and reimbursement. This position is responsible for managing high-volume data entry, submitting authorization requests, tracking claim activity, and communicating with insurance carriers and third-party administrators.

Responsibilities

• Process and submit Requests for Authorization (RFAs) for medical treatments, procedures, and durable medical equipment
• Manage high-volume data entry related to workers' compensation claims, patient records, and authorization requests
• Communicate with insurance carriers, TPAs, and internal teams regarding claim status, authorizations, and required documentation
• Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to submission
• Track pending authorizations, follow up on outstanding requests, and escalate issues as needed
• Maintain accurate records and update internal systems with claim activity, authorization outcomes, and correspondence
• Experience processing prior authorizations, referrals, verifications, or related healthcare administrative functions

Requirements

• Experience supporting orthopedic, rehabilitation, prosthetic, orthotic, or DME-related services is highly desirable
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage high-volume workloads
• Proficiency with computer systems and the ability to quickly learn new software platforms

Qualifications

• Workers' compensation experience strongly preferred
• Competitive pay of $20–$27/hour
