About the role

The Authorization and Referral Specialist is responsible for the timely processing, submitting, scheduling, and follow-up of referrals and requests for treatment authorizations as required by payer. This role tracks existing referrals by program and payer, and requires excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public. The ideal candidate must be flexible, organized, and able to manage a demanding workload with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Process, submit, schedule, and follow up on referrals and treatment authorization requests
• Track existing referrals by program and payer
• Maintain excellent customer service with patients, employees, and the public
• Manage a demanding workload with accuracy and organization

Requirements

• Two years of experience in the medical field, including front office, appointment scheduling, and referral authorization
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Knowledge of health plans, eligibility, and guidelines
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English
• Demonstrated ability to use a computer
• Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm
• Legally authorized to work in the United States

Qualifications

• Experience with the Seriously Mentally Ill population preferred
• Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT billing codes a plus

Physical Requirements

• May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods
• May include performing repetitive tasks
• May include lifting up to 25 pounds

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM (actual hours may vary depending on business need).
