About the role

The Authorization and Referral Specialist is responsible for the timely processing, submitting, scheduling and follow up of referrals and request for treatment authorizations as required by payer. The Authorization and Referral Specialist tracks existing referrals by program and payer.

Responsibilities

  • Timely processing, submitting, scheduling and follow up of referrals and request for treatment authorizations as required by payer
  • Tracks existing referrals by program and payer
  • Excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public
  • Flexible, organized, and manages a demanding workload with accuracy

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Two years in the medical field to include front office, appointment scheduling and referral authorization
  • Must be Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer
  • Knowledge of health plans, eligibility and guidelines
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm
  • Experience with the Seriously Mentally Ill population preferred
  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT billing codes a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods
  • Performing repetitive tasks
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds
