About the role

The Authorization Coordinator is a vital position to the overall function of the home health department. They support the department with administrative support and knowledge of insurance authorizations.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and track authorizations for home care, including pre-authorization, extension authorizations, and authorization-related appeals and denial management.
  • Coordinate follow-up with third parties to ensure authorizations are obtained and errors corrected.
  • Complete monthly insurance eligibility and benefits checks.
  • Notify patients and staff of changes in coverage and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Document benefit, authorization, and other relevant billing information in the electronic health record.
  • Maintain knowledge of payer’s authorization requirements and communicate professionally with authorization representatives to obtain necessary documentation.
  • Obtain telephonic and online authorization of services daily.
  • Upload information from the electronic health record into insurance company portals to obtain authorization for care.
  • Document requests for and receipt of authorization, including effective and end dates for each discipline in the electronic health record.
  • Follow up with clinicians on authorizations as needed.
  • Manage all aspects of the HBS CareFirst process, including referral processing, patient contact, coordinating start of care with the scheduler, and sending updates through the HBS portal.
  • Promptly answer incoming calls and appropriately transfer callers.
  • Access and utilize information from multiple electronic health records and portals as needed.
  • Follow all HIPAA, compliance, privacy, and confidentiality standards.
  • Assist with intake coordination for new patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in home health required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with staff, residents, and family members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Pay

Minimum USD $19.40/Hr. Maximum USD $29.10/Hr. Compensation decisions are made in alignment with internal equity, role scope, and market data to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. Most new hires are typically placed within the lower to mid-portion of the range; offers above that level are reserved for candidates with advanced or highly specialized qualifications.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
