About the Role

As a Night Stocker, you'll become part of a highly-functioning team in the Grocery or Drug Store department, working to meet common goals and sharing the nighttime work lifestyle. You'll learn about multiple products and departments across the store, providing a foundation for career growth at H-E-B.

Responsibilities

  • Stock shelves, refill displays, and load, unload, and move heavy, bulky products; may unload trucks.
  • Condition shelves and products, applying product knowledge (e.g., rotation dates, shelf/label info) to meet A+ Standards.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized department, including back rooms and shelves.
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and leader direction to ensure compliance.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and company regulations and standards for product food safety and sanitation.
  • Work efficiently and collaboratively, complying with productivity standards and taking constructive feedback.
  • May train or coach other stockers.
  • Operate with a team mindset, building relationships across departments (e.g., Curbside).
  • Assist customers in locating products and answering questions, modeling customer service and hospitality.

Duties may be modified at any time based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Experience in stocking and customer service is preferred.
  • Experience in physically demanding jobs is a plus.
  • Understanding of SOPs related to emergency procedures and proper stocking.
  • Strong communication, reading, and writing skills.
  • Excellent organization, time-management, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform repetitive, physical tasks, including heavy lifting.
  • Ability to think quickly, work with agility, and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Work in a fast-paced, demanding store environment with close attention to detail. Physical requirements vary by department:

  • Grocery:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk, bend.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to cold, loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs and manage in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Drugstore:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 66 lbs and manage in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Dairy:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp; exposed to cold temperatures.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk, bend.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 86 lbs and manage in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Frozen:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp; exposed to cold temperatures.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 60 lbs and manage in excess of 100 lbs.
  • General Merchandise:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk, bend.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, climb ladder, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 60 lbs and manage in excess of 60 lbs.

Frequency definitions: Constantly (5.5+ hours per 8-hour day), Frequently (2.5–5.5 hours), Occasionally (0–2.5 hours). Partners must not lift beyond their safe limit; assistance or breaking down items is required for heavy loads.

Qualifications

  • Forklift/power jack training provided upon hire.
