About the role
The Office of Audits (JA), Office of Inspector General (OIG), General Services Administration (GSA) is seeking an Auditor to join the Greater Southwest Region Audit Office in Fort Worth, TX. This office aims to improve GSA while protecting the integrity of its operations by identifying and reporting on challenges facing GSA management. The Auditor will participate in performance audits, implementation reviews, contract audits, financial statement audits, and compliance with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA).
Responsibilities
- Serve on a team conducting audits to assist higher-grade auditors in identifying high-risk areas.
- Collect and compile audit evidence from interviews, inquiries, record reviews, and data analyses.
- Analyze work related to developing and executing agency policies and programs.
- Review reports consisting of systematic examinations and appraisals of financial records.
- Apply established criteria to collected audit evidence to identify inconsistencies, anomalies, or exceptions.
Requirements
Conditions of employment:
- Direct deposit of salary check to a financial organization is required.
- Must meet all eligibility criteria within 30 days of the closing date.
- Register with the Selective Service if you are a male born after 12/31/1959.
- Meet time-in-grade within 30 days of the closing date, if applicable.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National (Residents of American Samoa and Swains Island).
- Receive authorization from OPM if you are or were (within the last 5 years) a political Schedule A, Schedule C, or Non-Career SES employee in the Executive Branch.
- Serve a one-year probationary period, if required.
- Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 3 level).
- Have your identity and work status eligibility verified through the Department of Homeland Security’s e-Verify system.
- Complete a financial disclosure report to verify no conflict of interest exists.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements for Auditors: You must meet one of the following:
- Option A: Degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours may be in business law).
- Option B: Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following:
- Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses (up to 6 hours may be in business law).
- A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certificate obtained through written examination.
- Completion of requirements for a degree with substantial coursework in accounting or auditing (e.g., 15 semester hours), provided you have successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, and a panel of professional accountants or auditors has determined your knowledge meets the required standards.
Applicants must submit a copy of their college or university transcript(s) and certificates by the closing date to verify qualifications. If selected, an official transcript will be required prior to appointment.
Additional Requirements for GS-9 Level: In addition to the basic requirements, you must possess at least one of the following:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including assisting in conducting complicated audits, performing systematic evaluations, detecting fraud and waste, or assisting in performance and/or contract audits.
- A master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree.
- Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
- A combination of graduate-level education and appropriate experience that meets the qualification requirements.
Additional Requirements for GS-7 Level: In addition to the basic requirements, you must possess at least one of the following:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, including obtaining, verifying, and summarizing auditing documentation; applying professional auditing principles; and evaluating information for accuracy and reliability.
- One full year of graduate-level education (18 semester hours or equivalent) in auditing or a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration, or accounting.
- Completion of all requirements for a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus demonstrated Superior Academic Achievement (SAA), defined as:
- Class standing in the upper third of your graduating class.
- A grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 (overall or in the final 2 years) or 3.5 or higher in your major field.
- Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.
- A combination of graduate-level education and appropriate experience that meets the qualification requirements.
Pay
- GS-09 salary range starts at $67,100 per year.
- GS-07 salary range starts at $54,857 per year.
If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.
Schedule
This is a full-time, in-office position. In rare instances, situational telework may be approved on a case-by-case basis.
