Auditor 9-P11
The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is seeking an individual to work in public service as an Auditor in its Office of Insurance Licensing, Investigations, and Audits. About the role
The preferred candidate will serve an important role in Michigan’s insurance sector, ensuring sound business practices, offering guidance, and protecting Michigan consumers. You will monitor and analyze the business practices of insurance agencies and premium finance companies to identify potential or existing areas of concern, determine the causes of any deficiencies, and assist in resolving those issues. Auditors play a key role in determining whether enforcement action is warranted and in promoting transparency through their audit reporting activities.
Responsibilities
- Analyze financial performance and business practices of insurance agencies and premium finance companies.
- Identify and assess risks, develop solutions, and support conclusions.
- Communicate audit findings clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Collaborate with colleagues and senior leaders to resolve problems.
- Travel occasionally, including overnight travel, as required.
Requirements
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting or a related field (finance, economics, information systems, business analytics, data analytics, statistics, quantitative methods, data science, or management).
- Professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records (requirements vary by level):
- Auditor 9: No specific experience required.
- Auditor 10: One year of professional experience equivalent to an Auditor 9.
- Auditor P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year equivalent to an Auditor 10.
- Certifications may substitute for experience:
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) may substitute for one year of experience at the P11 level.
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA) may substitute for six months of experience at the P11 level.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may substitute for one year of Auditor experience.
- Knowledge and experience related to title, property, and casualty insurance is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and within a team in a dynamic, collaborative, and high-tech environment.
- Willingness to relocate to Michigan if currently residing outside the state (relocation expenses are not reimbursed).
