Audit Manager, Not-for-Profit
Position Summary
KSM is looking for an experienced Audit Manager to join our not-for-profit audit practice. In this role, you’ll lead a variety of engagements ranging in complexity – including single audits under Uniform Guidance – from planning through delivery, serve as a trusted client contact, and play a meaningful role in developing the next generation of KSM talent.
Responsibilities
Manage multiple audit engagements concurrently across not-for-profit clients, ensuring high-quality, timely results
Serve as the primary client contact for technical questions, planning, and engagement updates
Plan and execute single audits in compliance with 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance), including risk assessment, major program determination, and compliance testing, including assistance in reporting of findings, as applicable
Review workpapers and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP, FASB ASC 958 (NFP Reporting Standards), and applicable auditing standards
Assist in the preparation of complex not-for-profit financial statements, including those with multi-entity consolidation, significant endowment, grant, or federal award activity
Stay current on developments in not-for-profit accounting and state and federal compliance requirements, including AICPA guidance, Indiana SBOA requirements, and OMB updates
Team Leadership & Development
Supervise and delegate to audit teams with clarity; review work for technical and professional quality
Coach and develop Associates and Senior Associates through formal and informal opportunities, identifying growth areas and providing actionable feedback
Own performance management for direct reports, including 1-on-1s, goal setting, and evaluation processes
Serve as an intern coordinator, as needed
Workflow & Collaboration
Maintain clear, professional communication with clients and internal stakeholders via Outlook, Teams, and other platforms
Monitor engagement budgets, timelines, and capacity; proactively address issues and keep engagement partners informed
Collaborate with KSM’s NFP Tax and Advisory teams to support integrated service delivery for not-for-profit clients
Partner with the resource management team on engagement scheduling
Travel to client sites as needed
Business Development
Identify opportunities for expanded service delivery across the not-for-profit client base
Build and nurture referral relationships within the not-for-profit community, primarily through high quality delivery of services to the existing client base
Requirements/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business; CPA license in good standing required
5+ years of public accounting experience, with significant and demonstrated experience leading not-for-profit audit engagements
Required: Hands-on experience planning and executing single audits under Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), including major program determination, compliance testing, and SEFA preparation
Strong working knowledge of FASB ASC 958 and not-for-profit financial reporting
Proven ability to lead audit teams and develop staff at multiple levels
Excellent communication, project management, and client relationship skills
Commitment to ongoing professional development, including 40 hours of annual CPE
