About the role

Lauterbach & Amen is a well-established CPA firm specializing in accounting, auditing, and financial services. With roots in governmental accounting, we have developed additional specialties to serve a diverse and growing client base. This full-time Audit Lead position is based in Naperville and will play a vital role in our Audit department.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day lead on assigned audit engagements, managing planning, execution, and wrap-up.
  • Perform and oversee risk assessments, including identification of key audit areas and tailoring audit procedures accordingly.
  • Complete audit work papers by documenting audit tests and findings, verifying financial statement information, and appraising internal control systems.
  • Review workpapers and documentation prepared by Associates to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and contribute to staff development by answering technical and procedural questions.
  • Act as the primary client liaison during fieldwork, maintaining professional and responsive communication.
  • Coordinate information requests, status updates, and issue resolution with client management.
  • Identify and clearly communicate audit findings, control deficiencies, and recommendations to clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (required).
  • 2-6 years of experience in auditing.
  • Pursuing CPA certification (a plus).
  • Government or non-profit audit experience (preferred).
  • Ability to travel 80% of the time around the Chicago suburbs with occasional travel to other Illinois locations.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $85,000–$100,000, with the final offer determined based on geographic location, relevant experience, education, skill set, and professional certifications. Offers are typically not made at the top of the range to allow for future growth and salary progression.
