Responsibilities

  • Maintain contact with clients throughout the year, possessing thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of their operations and control systems; build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Assume the role of engagement partner or report directly to the engagement partner on engagements, adhering to firm policies.
  • Sign attest opinions as a representative of the firm when assigned the role of engagement partner.
  • Oversee all phases of engagements when reporting to an engagement partner, ensuring deliverables comply with the applicable accounting framework and firm policy.
  • Apprise the engagement partner of all important developments on the client account; identify potential issues and implement solutions after partner consultation.
  • Ensure engagements are properly scheduled.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the governmental sector.
  • Ensure billing and collection practices are executed by engagement teams in accordance with firm policy.
  • Supervise staff assigned to engagements, provide on-the-job training, and review work papers and reports prepared by the engagement team.
  • Play a pivotal role in staff performance evaluations, reviews, and periodic counseling.
  • Participate in the recruitment of staff and interview Assurance and Advisory candidates as needed.
  • Act as a representative of the firm in business development matters; develop a network of business contacts and referrals to generate business.
  • Assume the lead role on prospective client leads, including initial communications, generating fee estimates, and attending meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with all firm-wide policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Approximately 10 years of experience in public accounting, with a minimum of 2 years in a senior manager position.
  • Significant experience in the public sector, including auditing state and local governments (e.g., cities, counties, special districts, charter schools).
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Current and valid CPA license.
  • Ability to travel to client and office locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring in new business to a CPA firm.
  • Significant experience conducting audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards (GAGAS/Yellow Book), Generally Accepted Audit Standards (GAAS), and the Uniform Guidance.
  • Ability to direct, review, and train departmental staff.
  • Exposure to conducting audits of not-for-profit organizations.

Pay

$220,000 - $270,000 per year
