Attorney, Pro Bono Unit Deputy Director
About the role
Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA) seeks a dedicated, licensed Florida attorney for its Pro Bono Deputy Director role. This full-time position is based in JALA’s downtown Jacksonville office, with business hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
JALA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance and advocacy for low-income individuals and families, ensuring access to justice and fair treatment in housing, consumer rights, family law, and other essential legal services. JALA’s Pro Bono Unit is a critical resource dedicated to closing the justice gap and ensuring legal representation is available to all, regardless of ability to pay. The unit provides attorneys with a platform to perform pro bono work, offering opportunities for professional development and personal reward.
Responsibilities
- Interview and counsel clients
- Litigate cases in Federal and State court
- Take on challenging cases for at-risk clients while receiving mentorship and support
- Engage in professional development and contribute to the Pro Bono Unit’s mission
Qualifications
- Licensed Florida attorney
- Dedication to public interest law and pro bono work

Pay
$70,000 yearly minimum, commensurate with experience.
All employees must clear Florida’s Level II background screening.
