Attorney - Mental Hygiene Legal Service

About the role

The position is with the Tupper Lake Satellite Office of the Third Department's Mental Hygiene Legal Service. Attorneys provide legal services and assistance to individuals residing in mental hygiene facilities, including those operated or licensed by the Office of Mental Health and the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities. Responsibilities include appearing in judicial and administrative proceedings related to the admission, retention, care, and treatment of individuals under articles 9, 10, and 15 of the Mental Hygiene Law, as well as other related proceedings such as guardianship.

Qualifications

• Associate Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar and two years of service in the Senior Attorney title, or equivalent legal experience.
• Senior Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar and two years of service in the Attorney title, or equivalent legal experience.
• Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar, or graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar within 18 months of appointment.

Trial experience is preferred. A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required.

Pay

• Associate Attorney: $110,853 base salary
• Senior Attorney: $99,490 base salary
• Attorney: $84,659 base salary
