About the role

The New York City Law Department is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Family Court Division’s Interstate Child Support Unit (“ICSU”). The Interstate Child Support Unit litigates child support cases in New York State Family Court. Attorneys in the Unit are responsible for the preparation and presentation of petitions to establish paternity and child support as well as appearing on and defending applications for modification of previously established orders. They will also prepare and present enforcement matters, file and respond to motions, file objections and rebuttals, conduct discovery, including document production and inspection, prepare memorandum of law, interview clients and witnesses, negotiate settlements, and conduct hearings and trials. Attorneys in the Unit appear primarily before support magistrates and Family Court judges.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present petitions to establish paternity and child support
• Appear on and defend applications for modification of previously established orders
• Prepare and present enforcement matters
• File and respond to motions
• File objections and rebuttals
• Conduct discovery, including document production and inspection
• Prepare memoranda of law
• Interview clients and witnesses
• Negotiate settlements
• Conduct hearings and trials
• Participate in a citywide rotation of night and weekend court assignments in the juvenile delinquency unit
• Attend community events and meetings, and complete other responsibilities in the evening and weekend hours

Requirements

• At least two years of litigation experience after graduating from an ABA accredited law school
• Admitted to practice law in New York State

Salary

• 0–5 years of legal experience: $87,737–$122,300
• 5–10 years of legal experience: $122,300–$137,188
• 10–15 years of legal experience: $137,188–$159,521
• 15–20 years of legal experience: $159,521–$180,791
• 20+ years of legal experience: $180,791–$188,235
• Candidates with highly specialized experience may qualify for salaries slightly above these ranges when a role requires such expertise or the position is considered hard to fill

Work From Home Options

• Flexible Remote Work: Allows limited, irregular work from home days
• Citywide Pilot Program: Allows attorneys to work remotely on two set days per week, subject to Division approval and staffing needs
  • Participants must maintain a single designated remote work location
  • In-person obligations take precedence over scheduled remote days
