About the role
The Caltrans San Diego Legal Office seeks a highly qualified attorney to handle various legal matters including tort, real property, environmental, construction arbitration, contracts, employment, appellate, and transactional law practices.
Responsibilities
- Studies, interprets, and applies laws, court decisions, and other authorities in preparing the most difficult and/or complex cases, opinions, and briefs.
- Prepares and presents cases for trial.
- Engages in a variety of transactional work under general direction.
Requirements
Litigation experience, including legal research, law and motion, discovery, and trial and appellate work is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school is required. Admission to California Bar is required. Experience in civil litigation and transactional law is preferred.
Skills
Strong analytical and writing skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Familiarity with legal research databases and court systems is beneficial.

$130,224.00 - $183,900.00 annually.
