Attorney III

State Compensation Insurance Fund Claims Legal Department is hiring multiple Attorney and Attorney III positions. Attorneys will be placed where they’re needed most, providing vital support and coverage across the legal team throughout California.

About the role

Under the leadership of our Assistant Chief Counsel, you will collaborate with clients, draft legal documents, conduct discovery, make appearances, and negotiate settlements. You’ll tackle challenging workers’ compensation assignments in various venues, appearing virtually and in person across California, and litigate in multiple venues of the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. Travel may be part of your role. Additional responsibilities include engaging in special projects, providing training, or managing consolidated litigation involving multiple parties and issues.

• Skillfully negotiate and draft settlements
• Make confident court appearances, including trials

Requirements

• Licensed to practice law in California
• Passion for workers’ compensation litigation
• Adaptability and strong interpersonal skills
• Persuasive and concise legal writing and research abilities
• Understanding of medical reports and experience with depositions
• Professional communication and negotiation skills with employers and claims staff
• Ability to manage an active caseload, including complex liens
• Independence, collaboration, and the ability to work well with colleagues and stakeholders
• Self-motivation, organizational skills, and a drive to meet deadlines
• Willingness to appear in person at any office location as needed

Pay

$10,852 - $15,325 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
