Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

About the Role
The EDD Legal Office is seeking an Attorney III to perform difficult, complex, sensitive, and specialized legal work across all areas of the Legal Office. The role focuses on supporting the Unemployment Insurance Branch and Disability Insurance Branch with legal opinions, pre-litigation demands, litigation support, legislative analysis, and regulation drafting. The Attorney III may also function as a lead attorney on large cases and projects and assist with Public Records Act requests.
This position is headquartered at the New Labor Agency Building (NLAB) in downtown Sacramento, a newly remodeled high-rise with amenities such as break areas, wellness/lactation rooms, a fitness center, bike storage, an outdoor terrace, and nearby public transit options.
Responsibilities
- Perform specialized legal work in support of the Unemployment Insurance and Disability Insurance Branches, including legal opinions and pre-litigation demands.
- Support litigation, legislative analysis, and regulation drafting.
- Gather and review records responsive to Public Records Act requests.
- Serve as a lead attorney for lower-level attorneys on large cases and projects.
Requirements
- Must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification for Attorney III.
- Ability to perform complex and sensitive legal work under general supervision.
- Experience or demonstrated capability in litigation, legislative analysis, and regulation drafting.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
Qualifications
- Current eligibility for the Attorney III classification (list, transfer, reinstatement, LEAP, SROA, or Surplus eligibility).
- SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority.
- Applicants may be considered for a Training and Development assignment.

Pay
Monthly salary range: $10,852.00 - $15,325.00. Effective July 1, 2025, specific bargaining units and excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction of 2% - 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP 2025) hours.
