About the role

Under the general direction of the Assistant General Counsel, the incumbent exercises independent judgment and performs duties related to the legal support provided by the Department’s Climate Resilience, Energy, Security, and Technology legal team to Department programs and activities. The incumbent advises the Director, other Department executive management, and Department program management and staff about complex and sensitive cases and/or matters involving opposing counsel with a high level of specialization.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialized legal advice and support to Department programs and activities.
• Advise executive management and program staff on complex and sensitive legal matters.
• Engage with opposing counsel on high-stakes cases and matters.
• Interact with members of the legislature, high-level governor appointees, constitutional officers, and the general public.
