ATTORNEY III

About the Role

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Legal Division is recruiting to fill one permanent full-time Attorney III position in its Community Care Licensing (CCL) Enforcement Branch, Information Governance Bureau. The position will be filled in Sacramento, Oakland, Riverside, or Monterey Park and allows for a hybrid work environment with telework at the employee’s residence.

Responsibilities

• Perform Arrest Only Triage and Consultation for the Care Provider Management Bureau (CPMB) by timely reviewing and analyzing arrest reports, criminal offender record information, court records, and other documents.
• Perform high-level policy development, legal research, and legislative review.
• Provide guidance on and response to Public Records Act (PRA) requests and subpoenas.
• Prepare and present trainings to staff on a wide variety of topics.

Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment.
• Must clear a Background Investigation prior to being hired.
• Must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) along with the application. The SOQ is a narrative discussion (not exceeding two pages, 12-point type) of how the applicant’s education, training, experience, and skills meet the job description and duty statement.
• Must complete employment history on the application form (STD 678) accurately and completely. Resumes will not substitute for employment history.
• If meeting minimum qualifications with education, unofficial transcripts must be included for verification. Official transcripts may be required if selected.
• Candidates residing outside California may interview but must provide proof of California residency prior to appointment.
• Selected candidate will be subject to a criminal record background check clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Qualifications

The position requires meeting the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification for Attorney III. Applicants must demonstrate their qualifications through the application and SOQ.

Pay

$10,852.00 - $15,325.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position with a hybrid work schedule.
