Responsibilities

Make regular inspections of facilities and equipment and perform necessary repairs and maintenance.
Provide information to airport users regarding air traffic procedures, noise abatement procedures and weather conditions.
Monitor airport activities, aircraft and fueling operations to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local regulations.
Receive and process complaints from airport users and the community.
Assign hangar and tie-down spaces and collect rental fees.

Qualifications

  • One year experience performing general maintenance duties for I level.
    Two years experience performing airport operations and maintenance duties for II level.
    Knowledge of: accepted emergency practices, procedures and regulations including First Aid, CPR and aircraft fire fighting and rescue techniques;
    airport safety and operations procedures, including air traffic control and crash, fire, and rescue procedures;
    ground keeping repair and maintenance;
    record keeping principles and methods;
    operations and maintenance of airport vehicles, equipment, facilities and grounds;
    Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

Skills

  • Perform a wide variety of mechanical and maintenance tasks;
    use hand, electric and pneumatic power tools;
    respond appropriately in emergency situations;
    perform support tasks including keeping accurate records, making arithmetic calculations, handling cash, and filing;
    follow oral and written instructions including safety rules, procedures and practices;
    work courteously and effectively with the public and with co-workers;
    apply safety rules, procedures, and practices and respond appropriately to emergency situations;
    work independently with little supervision;
    write accurate and detailed reports and using a microcomputer;
    perform activities such as handling fire hoses, climbing 60 foot ladders, and lifting airport related equipment.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.

Application/Examination

Anyone may apply. County employees receive preference points. A supplemental application form must be submitted in addition to our regular employment application form. A screening committee will select those applicants whose education/experience appear to best meet the needs of the position. Because of this screening process, all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the next phase of the examination. The examination will consist of a combination written/performance test (weight: 100%). Qualified applicants will be notified of the test date, time, place and location and must participate at their own expense.
