Attorney-Adviser (General)
Incumbents will serve as the Attorney-Adviser (General) in the Office of Counsel, Defense Logistics Agency, DLA Disposition Services, a Major Subordinate Command, located in Battle Creek, MI.
Position may be filled at the following grade levels with corresponding pay ranges:
- GS-12: $89,508 - $116,362
- GS-13: $106,437 - $138,370
- GS-14: $125,776 - $163,514
Responsibilities
- Serves as an Associate Counsel with expertise in more than one legal specialty. Portfolio and daily workload will be assigned based on office needs to support DLA Disposition Services.
- Provide legal services and advice related to the DLA Disposition Services mission, covering professionals at all levels of the organization.
- Provide legal advice on a wide range of issues including federal surplus property management and sales, Contract Law, Employment Law, Environmental Law, FOIA, International Law, Operational Law, Privacy Act, and Standards of Conduct.
- Prepare and/or review responses to Congressional, Government Accountability Office (GAO), and Inspectors General requests, as required.
- Rotate through different legal portfolios to gain additional experience and maintain currency in broad administrative, civil, international, and operational law areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- This is an Excepted Service position.
- Tour of Duty: Flexible.
- Security Requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret Access. Appointment is subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.

Qualifications
The first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.); proof that you are licensed and a member in good standing with the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia is required. Acceptable proof includes:
- A "certificate of good standing" issued by your state of licensure dated within 6 months of the closing date of this announcement.
- A screenshot of your bar status from your state of licensure website dated within 6 months of the closing date of this announcement, or a sworn statement with the date the screenshot was created.
The successful applicant must provide a "certificate of good standing" showing active status prior to appointment.
In addition to the above, each grade level has specific qualification requirements:
- GS-12 Level:
- Two years of professional legal experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level.
- OR the second professional law degree (LL.M.) plus 1 year of professional legal experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level.
- In unusual cases, an attorney without experience may be employed at the GS-12 level if they have advanced educational attainments substantially beyond those required for the GS-11 level.
- GS-13 Level: Professional legal experience in excess of 2 years commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- GS-14 Level: Professional legal experience in excess of 3 years commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Promotion for this position is based on time, performance, and mastery of skills at the required grade level, with approval from the DLA General Counsel.

Security Clearance
This position is designated Non-Critical Sensitive. If selected, you must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. If unable to obtain this clearance within a reasonable period, the employment offer may be withdrawn. Incumbent is subject to periodic re-investigation to maintain security eligibility.
