Attorney-Adviser (General).

About the Role

As an Attorney-Advisor (General) for Disposition Services, you will serve as an Associate Counsel with expertise in multiple legal specialties. Your portfolio and daily workload will be assigned based on office needs to support the DLA Disposition Services mission and professionals at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on a wide range of issues, including federal surplus property management and sales, Contract Law, Employment Law, Environmental Law, FOIA, International Law, Operational Law, Privacy Act, and Standards of Conduct.
• Prepare and/or review responses to Congressional, Government Accountability Office (GAO), and Inspectors General requests as required.
• Rotate through different legal portfolios to gain additional experience and maintain currency in administrative, civil, international, and operational law areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• This is an Excepted Service position.
• Appointment is subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
• Must comply with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) exemption status.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Selectees must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Failure to obtain this clearance may result in withdrawal of the employment offer.
• Selectees must have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification to access federal facilities.
• Financial Disclosure is required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.).
• Be licensed and a member in good standing with the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. Proof of good standing (e.g., a "certificate of good standing" or bar status screenshot dated within 6 months of the announcement closing date) is required.

Additional qualification requirements by grade level:

• GS-12 Level:
  • Two years of professional legal experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level, or
  • A second professional law degree (LL.M.) plus one year of professional legal experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level, or
  • Advanced educational attainments beyond the GS-11 level, demonstrating ability to perform the assigned work (for attorneys without experience).
• GS-13 Level: Professional legal experience in excess of 2 years commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• GS-14 Level: Professional legal experience in excess of 3 years commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Promotion for this position is based on time, performance, and mastery of skills at the required grade level, with approval from the DLA General Counsel.

Education

• You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application.
• If using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization specializing in foreign education and deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program, or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
