ATTENDING PHYSICIAN X - MEDICINE - (HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY)
Job Summary
The Attending Physician performs professional work in medical, educational, and research activities under the direction of the Chair of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. The Attending Physician provides expert care and treatment for patients with cancer and benign hematological conditions, participates in clinical trials, and supports care across Cook County Health network.
Typical Duties
- Staffs outpatient care sessions in the sub-specialty clinic, providing direct patient care and supervising trainees
- Provides care for in-patient oncology and/or hematology consult services
- Sets standards and ensures consistent high-quality care to patients with hematology and oncology disorders by educating, assisting, and guiding primary care physicians
- Supervises and trains hematology/oncology subspecialty fellows, rotating residents, and medical students
- Maintains accurate medical records and completes billing encounter forms accurately and timely
- Participates in the division and departmental performance improvement programs
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited college or university
- Licensed as a Physician and Surgeon in the State of Illinois
- Cleared for privileges by Medical Staff Services by start of employment
- Board certification by American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in a Hematology or Oncology subspecialty or Board eligibility within two years of starting employment
- Experience with participation in NCI sponsored clinical trials
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electronic medical record (Cerner)
- Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics including excellent clinical and technical skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
