ATSU - Campus Manager Security/Safety (SLO)

About the role

The Campus Security/Safety Manager coordinates and directs the activities of Campus Security/Safety personnel to provide security for the University. This position oversees all aspects of campus physical security to ensure the safety of students, patients, visitors, and employees, with a direct reporting relationship to the Director of Campus Safety. The role assists the Director in reporting all Clery Act requirements to ensure University compliance and supervises contracted Security Officers. The position involves collaboration with stakeholders to assess and improve processes, as well as carrying out additional responsibilities as directed.

Responsibilities

• Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards.
• Assist in the review of injury and property damage reports.
• Establish and maintain work schedules and assignments of Campus Safety Officers.
• Coordinate safety activities for emergencies and special University activities.
• Check premises for fire and safety hazards daily, recommend corrective actions, and implement necessary preventive measures.
• Assist in the development, distribution, and periodic updates of procedural emergency manuals and lockdown procedures for the Campus/Clinic.
• Enforce University Vehicle policies and parking regulations.
• Perform duties as security staff daily.
• Conduct confidential investigations into alleged losses, thefts, or wrongful acts affecting security (excluding matters governed by ATSU Policy 90-210).
• Check premises for issues such as lighting, overgrown shrubbery, or building damage; update daily time and activity sheets.
• Conduct monthly inspections of AEDs and fire extinguishers.
• Conduct Active Shooter Drills, Fire Drills, and Lock in/out drills according to federal and state regulations.
• Supervise and maintain access control for building access cards and key control.
• Develop and execute campus health and safety programs according to federal, state, and local guidelines.
• Assist in preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
• Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to regulations.
• Conduct training and presentations on health and safety matters and accident prevention.
• Monitor compliance with policies and regulations by inspecting employees and operations related to environmental health and safety.
• Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
• Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and coordinate with Human Resources on worker's compensation claims.
• Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures.
• Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
• Perform audits of cadavers and test air quality in the anatomy lab.
• Conduct periodic inspections of life safety equipment and assist the director with local safety authority inspection tours.
• Develop and implement specialized education and training materials.
• Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs.
• Direct or assist with Disaster Drills and participate as a member of the Internal Disaster Committee.
• Assist in developing departmental goals and objectives.
• Respond to all alarms in a timely manner and complete fire alarm reports as required.
• Assist in updating and maintaining Disaster Plans for the Security Department.
• Maintain emergency command center equipment, including satellite phones.
• Assist the Director in working with local law enforcement officials and first responders.
• Serve as an active member on the University Safety Committee and other ad hoc committees as assigned.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Two-year college degree or equivalent, or 3-5 years of experience.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, HIPAA, and FERPA.
• Proven experience as a safety manager with a deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines.
• Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies.
• Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
• Excellent organizational, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
• Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
• Skilled in standards, concepts, practices, and procedures within health, safety, and environmental fields.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision, maintain accurate records, and follow written and oral instructions.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written (training, presentations, report writing).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with two-way radios and satellite phones.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to interact effectively with faculty, employees, students, patients, and visitors.
• Reliable, self-starter, able to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask.
• Alert at all times, visibly establishing the right example for workers.
• Diligent, quick to notice and respond to safety issues as they arise.
• Proactive approach to anticipating potential risk factors on campus.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Pay

$29.93 - $35.94 per hour
