ATLAS Educator

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead outdoor education activities, including field trips with elementary aged youth
  • Implement outdoor education curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with co-educators to deliver lessons covering science, social studies, SEL, and work study concepts
  • Meet monthly with the education team for program preparation and professional development
  • Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for children of all backgrounds
  • Contribute to the overall success of the ATLAS program, performing other duties as requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or related field
  • 5+ years of experience teaching and/or counseling experience, ideally including outdoor education experience
  • Preference for those who hold additional certifications or training in related fields (such as Wilderness First Aid, Natural Resources Steward, Lifeguard Certification, Mental Health First Aid, Mindful Outdoor Guide Certification, CASEL Training, etc)
  • Be dedicated to raising the next generation of conservations by connecting children to nature through wild play experiences
  • Comfort and experience guiding children in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions
  • Completion of a background check and child protection training is required upon hire

Compensation

This is a part-time, non-exempt, stipend position at SELT. This position is not eligible for benefits or paid time off. ATLAS Elementary programs will run on Monday mornings and Friday mornings from mid-September-early June. Educators will need to be on site from 8:30am-11:30am (occasionally later for some field trips). This position works 6-8 hours per week. The stipend is based on pay ranges $24-26 per hour depending on experience and certifications. Free solar-powered EV charging is available for SELT employees at Burley Farms.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Work is typically performed outdoors and in all weather conditions. Educators are required to demonstrate proper preparation for learning and play outside. Work occasionally requires lifting up to 20 lbs. and work may take place with extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc. Work requires navigation of uneven ground while occasionally carrying equipment or a backpack. This role is in-person with programming taking place at Epping Elementary School, Lamprey River Elementary School and SELT’s Burley Farms campus.
